| Our
Company originally Hemas (Drugs) Ltd., a family concern, was founded
in 1948 in Dam Street, Pettah by Sheikh Hassanally Esufally who,
together with his four sons began trading in pharmaceuticals and
consumables. In the early 50’s the business was expanded to
include Science House which was set up to deal with laboratory supplies
and allied equipment. The growth in business warranted the move
in 1960 to its own spacious premises in Bristol Street, Fort situated
in the heart of Colombo’s financial district, with easy access
to banks and other commercial establishments and the Colombo port.
The six-storey Hemas Building, built by our founder continues to
be our Head Office even now.
In the 1980’s we diversified into many fields which included
the retailing of Communication equipment. 1993 saw a restructuring
of the Company which resulted in the transformation of the Laboratory
